Once a month, Laker students receive a special school snack – and it’s not your typical snack. It’s made from fresh, local produce and prepared by Cinamon Marker, the Laker Farm to School coordinator. The monthly produce snack is the result of a $7,500 Chef Ann Foundation Project Produce grant. Some examples of snacks so far this year include cabbage and pears. The snacks are placed in small plastic cups and delivered by Cinamon and some student helpers. While not every student likes the produce served, they are all encouraged to try it. The goal is to expand students’ palates and encourage increased consumption of and exposure to fresh produce.
