Laker Secondary School students attended an important assembly February 13. The assembly focused on cyber-bullying and sexting, what constitutes both, and what the serious consequences are for both. Michigan State Police Trooper Mark Swales shared this information, along with some distressing true stories of what can happen to those who are victims and to those who are the instigators. He also discussed laws that can be broken with cyber-bullying and sexting. Trooper Swales also said with every electronic message or photo sent, there is always a record that can be traced – even with apps like Snapchat that claim a photo only lasts for a short time. He urged all students to think carefully before they hit the “send” button, because they never truly know how far that message or photo will reach, and who will get that message or photo. These were certainly important messages for all students to hear and to keep in mind as young adults. What young people can consider “not a big deal” can change the course of their lives forever.
