A group of Laker students attended the STEM conference at Delta College May 4 Students heard presentations from Dow, MTU, Ford, and Delta College representatives about STEM careers (science, technology, engineering and math).
There were over 30 student research posters presented at the conference that were evaluated on science, engineering and popular vote.
The team of Lance Gascho and Joy Bonke earned second place in engineering with their research on DEEP Dive into Chemistry, in which they designed a floating, waterproof, and workable cell phone case. All Laker chemistry students completed this cell phone project earlier this school year.
The team of Isiah Gray, Elly Hyzer and Liberty Cloutier won over the crowd and earned first place for the popular vote with their DEEP Dive Physical Science project about wind turbine blades. All Laker physical science students designed the blades using CAD software, and Delta College created the prototype blades using a 3D printer. The students then tested their blades to see how well they worked.
Congratulations to our winning Laker groups! We’re very proud of your accomplishments!
