At the March 19 board of education meeting, board members unanimously approved a recommendation from the Student Safety Committee to hire a part-time school security officer, to be identified and hired as soon as possible.
“We have been working with the sheriff’s office on some possibilities, and hope to have a candidate in place in the near future,” said Superintendent Brian Keim. “It is important to our board that this person is a good fit for the school environment and is able to build relationships and trust with our students.” The position will be paid through the district’s general fund, with dollars generated by increased student enrollment.
“If things go well, we will consider expanding the program for next fall, with the goal of having a full-time security presence on our campus,” Mr. Keim said. “It is imperative that we create a sense of safety and security for our students so they can focus on learning.”
