Laker Elementary second graders embarked on special field trips on Fridays – they traveled to Scheurer Long Term Care and Country Gardens or Country Bay to play games and make crafts alongside residents. This program was called Generation Connection, and it proved to be a big success. The field trips were rotated between the four second-grade classrooms, so on average, each classroom went once a month. At Scheurer Long Term, the kiddos played a variety of games, and some were related to whatever holiday was coming up. Many of the games involved the residents, while other games (such as musical chairs) were for the residents to watch and enjoy. At Country Bay, the residents and students played bingo together. At Country Gardens, students and residents created crafts together. Students loved spending time with these “grandmas and grandpas” and looked forward to their visits. They said the residents were very kind and helpful. Here are some images from the visits. Our EPBP Laker Facebook page has many more photos (posted June 20). Look at the big smiles on the students’ and residents’ faces! These smiles say a thousand words – or more!
