During a ceremony Oct. 29 at the Laker auditorium, Jeffery Powell and Ray Licht were honored for their important roles in the Laker Archery Program. Jeffery passed away Sept. 12 and Mr. Licht passed away Sept. 19. Mr. Licht started the Laker Archery program 16 years ago. Jeffery was a state champion in archery and was an 8th grader at Lakers. The ceremony featured reflections about Jeffery from fellow students Isaac Ward, Lily McNabb, and Kaitlyn Reehl, and Camryn Mallory held up memorial stones for Jeffery and Mr. Licht. Laker Archery Coach Lyle Gascho also spoke about Jeffery and Mr. Licht. The ceremony was attended by members of Jeffery’s and Mr. Licht’s families, along with all junior high students. After the ceremony, the family members went outside to see the trees planted in Jeffery’s and Mr. Licht’s honor. A wooden bench also was donated to the school in memory of Jeffery, and the bench was placed by the junior high entrance. The trees were planted by Lee’s Landscaping.
