On Veteran’s Day, third graders from Joy McIntosh’s class ventured out to Fiddler’s Green with Art and Technology Teacher Amy Smithers to do a special art project – painting windows! The students also created window clings, which they placed on some of the windows. Students used red, white and blue paint to create hearts, flags and other designs. They also wrote messages such as “Thank you” and “Heroes.” They had to remember to write the messages backwards so that the veterans could read them from inside. As the children painted, veterans watched from inside with big smiles. After the painting was done, students read a special poem to the veterans, and some windows were opened so the veterans could hear the students. The third graders said they had a great time, and the veterans loved having the children stop by.
