Did you know that Lakers has junior high and high school esports teams? We do, and recently, our high school esports team earned its first official win! The duo of Ashtyn Martindale and Konnor Olsen defeated the team from Durand High School in the first official Rocket League match of the season, 4 games to 1. They will compete alongside teammates Josh Schave and Gavin Smith for about four more weeks as they attempt to qualify for the postseason.
The team of Wesley Fritz, Sawyer Aldrich, Jack Turner, and Elam Maurer are competing in Super Smash Brothers against other high schools around the state.
The junior high teams do not compete in tournaments, but they can compete in scrimmages.
The coaches for this activity are teachers Tyler Scharf, David Snider and Jeremy Kirkham.
Interesting fact – scholarships are available for esports participants! Pretty cool!
