On November 8, 2021, Laker High School held its annual induction ceremony for the local chapter of the National Honor Society. During this candlelit ceremony, 36 students were inducted as new members. Members were selected for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character.
Students inducted on this special evening included: 10th Grade: Haley Arntz, Sadie Brooks, Lauren Esch, Cassidy Fritz, Samantha Harder, Rebekah Helmuth, Jacob Henderson, Faith Hooper, Kadie Jarson, Madilyn Jimpkoski, McKenzie Kady, Heidi Keim, Layton Krohn, Ashtyn Martindale, Abigail Mattice, Magdalene Maurer, Elizabeth McArdle, Grace McArdle, James McArdle, Grace McLean, Konnor Olson, Alyssa Redmond, Dustin Richmond, Ellie Rujan, Jayce Sears, Emma Smith, Alexis Stafford, Grace Suggitt, Kennedy Tate, Jack Turner, Trenten Ulfig, Lily Ward; 11th Grade: Luke Braun, Morgan Chandler, Mason Shaw, and 12th Grade: Grace VanHoutteghem.
“Tonight’s ceremony is a way to showcase our students who excel in academics as well as a desire to render service. We are very proud to recognize these outstanding members of our student body. National Honor Society members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community,” said Jeff Etzel, Laker High School Chapter Advisor.
During the ceremony, continuing NHS members Alexander Smith, Dylan Wehner, Colton Oyervidez, Alexandria Scaddan, and Maya Viers each spoke about the four pillars of standards for the National Honor Society, along with announcing the Presentation of Inductees. Alexa Smithers provided the special music presentation for the event.
To maintain Laker High School NHS active member status, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.50 or above, perform a minimum of 15 community service hours a year, and participate yearly in at least two school sponsored community service activities.
