On November 10, 2022, Laker High School held its annual induction ceremony for its local chapter of the National Honor Society. During this candlelit ceremony, thirty-two students were inducted as new members. The National Honor Society is “the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students.” Members were selected for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character.
Students inducted on this special evening included: 10th Grade: Beckett Boyce, Dylan Braun, Anya Cardoza, Hannah Corp, Sarah Courter, Addison Elenbaum, Elle Farnum, Brooke Herzog, Kate Hill, Nola Hogan, Ryleigh Lapka, Abigail LeVasseur, Lauren LeVasseur, Camryn Mallory, Carson McCain, Audrey McNabb, Caroline McNabb, Lily McNabb, Nathanael Michalski, Kierra NelsonYoung, Kaitlyn Reehl, Shawnessy Renn, Abigail Rosenthal, Evan Schember, Aden Schuyler, Casey Smith, Claire Smith, Megan Strieter, Faith Suggitt, Cade Truemner, Gwyneth Zimmerman, and 12th Grade: Breanna Bailey.
During the ceremony, continuing NHS members Brianna Yoder, Grace Suggitt, Mikel Good, Emily Smith, and Lauren Scaddan provided speeches highlighting the four pillars of standards for the National Honor Society, along with announcing the Presentation of Inductees. Madison Smith, accompanied by pianist Dr. Samantha Corrion, provided the special music presentation for the event.
“(Thursday’s) ceremony is a way to showcase our students who excel in academics as well as a desire to render service. We are very proud to recognize these outstanding members of our student body. National Honor Society members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community,” said Jeff Etzel, Laker High School Chapter Advisor.
To maintain Laker High School NHS active member status, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.50 or above, perform a minimum of 15 community service hours a year, and participate yearly in at least two school-sponsored community service activities.
