Congratulations to Claire Zagorski, a second grader in Tracy Gordon’s class! She won the “How to Build an Award-Winning Snowman” book contest! This contest was part of the HISD’s family exploration packs that go to all second-grade students in Huron County. To enter the contest, students needed to develop a unique story on how to build an award-winning snowman. They were given a copy of a blank book in which they could write their story and illustrate pictures to accompany their story. Students submitted their finished books to their teachers, who submitted the books to the ISD. So why was Claire’s book the winner?
“Claire’s book was chosen after several people at the ISD had a chance to read and rank all of the entries received,” said Katie Parker, K-2 Literacy & Math Consultant. “She did a very nice job of having a complete story outlining how to build her award-winning snowman with great details and illustrations. She also did a fantastic job of making friendship a part of her story.”
Claire won an art set, a blank hard-cover book/journal for her next writing piece, and a published hard-cover version of the story she wrote! Her story also will be published on the Huron Daily Tribune’s website.
Great job, Claire! She’s pictured with her teacher, Mrs. Gordon (left) and Mrs. Parker from the ISD (right).
