Dozens of veterans attended the annual Laker Veteran’s Day program Nov. 9. The program included songs performed by elementary students and the Laker High School band. One of the songs performed by the band was “America the Beautiful,” and everyone in the gymnasium stood for a portion of the song. A tribute video was played, as well, and four fifth graders read awesome essays about veterans in their families and what Veteran’s Day means to them. It was a remarkable program, and we want to thank all who attended. The Veteran’s Day program started in 2001 and became district-wide in 2006. Former Laker teacher Judy Gerisch started the program in honor of her parents.
