Laker Elementary School
The Laker Elementary staff is committed to developing and enhancing student achievement in the areas of academics, integrated technology, and citizenship in a safe and caring environment. We believe that building children into respectful and intelligent young adults starts in the early years, therefore our teachers instill these ideals from the beginning. We currently enroll students from Elkton, Pigeon, Bay Port, Bad Axe, Caseville, and surrounding communities.
Laker Elementary school days begin at 7:40 a.m. and end at 3:10 p.m.

Laker Elementary offers a variety of extracurricular activities!
Throughout the year, students can get involved in a variety of extracurricular activities – some during the school day, some after school. Each one develops skills and confidence that will benefit students for many years to come. Some of the activities involve competition, while others are offered just so students can gain a unique experience. Some of the activities are pictured to the right.

Elementary Literacy
Laker Elementary teachers and parapros work hard every day to ensure students are where they should be in their literacy levels. It’s a process, and Laker Elementary is dedicated to supporting students in literacy skills, one step at a time. In addition, twice a week, Irene Janik and her therapy dog, Sugar, visit the elementary, and students have scheduled times to read to Sugar. Students love it when Sugar comes! Laker Elementary Specials
Each day, Laker Elementary students have hour-long art, gym, or music classes (one class per day). Students have a great time and they learn key skills to help them succeed!
A Cool Fact About Laker Schools
Laker Elementary students enjoy many great field trips throughout the year, both locally and in other areas of Michigan. Most are educational, but some are just for fun!
Positive Behavior & Support
At Lakers, we are a big family where staff and students feel deeply for each other. We created this family atmosphere by addressing all the needs of our students, not just their academics. We have programs in place for preventing bullying, dealing with behavioral issues in a positive way so students choose responsible thinking over negative actions, and school-based counseling for students who want additional support. Laker Elementary has multiple staff members who are focused on helping struggling students, including a counselor, a school psychologist, and a behavior interventionist.
Laker Elementary is a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School for 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24. In addition, the district became a National Showcase District in 2023-24! The CKH program focuses on social-emotional well-being, a relationship-driven culture, and student connectedness to school. The program helps students take ownership of their behavior in the classroom and encourages relationship-building among students and staff, so school becomes a consistent place of positive interactions and a place to feel safe and secure. To reward students who show positive behavior in the classroom and around the school, Laker Elementary offers multiple reward programs. One of them is Laker Lighthouse Awards, which reward students for positive behavior in such areas as the hallway, lunchroom, gym, and playground. Another program is Spotlight Breakfast, during which students are honored and parents join their children for a special breakfast. Each teacher selects two students each quarter for this recognition. This program is sponsored by Thumb Bank and Trust.
PTOC
The Laker Elementary PTOC – making wonderful things happen every school year for our students!
The Laker Elementary PTOC has a variety of fundraisers throughout the school year, such as the spring carnival, book fair, and mother-son and father-daughter events. Early Childhood
The Little Lakers GSRP Program
With the Little Lakers Great Start Readiness Preschool Program, Lakers is offering an opportunity for more families of 4-year-olds to qualify for free preschool. There also will be tuition-based opportunities for this program (based on openings). The Headstart program also is available for 3-year-olds. Lakers also provides in-district busing to children in these programs! Give your child the best opportunity for success – sign up today for either GSRP or Headstart by clicking on the link below.
