Laker Elementary has been named a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School! Capturing Kids’ Hearts is a program that focuses on social-emotional wellbeing, relationship-driven culture, and student connectedness. The entire Laker staff has been trained in this program. Out of thousands and thousands of schools nationwide that use this program, only 377 U.S. school campuses have been selected as a 2021-2022 Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School.
“We are absolutely honored to have been chosen as a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School,” said Laker Elementary Principal Jill VerBurg, who announced the honor to the whole school over the intercom. “This honor validates all of the amazing work our entire staff does to build relationships with students and families along with making sure our students are loved and supported. Laker Elementary staff is truly one big family. They are completely dedicated to making our school the most amazing place to learn and grow.”
Superintendent Brian Keim is thrilled about the honor.
“I am so proud of our elementary staff for embracing the concept of Capturing Kids’ Hearts,” Mr. Keim said. “Building healthy relationships with our students is probably the most important and impactful thing we can do, and they have done a wonderful job with that. Mrs. VerBurg has also done a great job of leading the effort and walking the talk each day. She’s such a positive person.”
Mr. Keim said Lakers’ goal is to become a Showcase District.
“I look forward to seeing the growth continue in our Middle School and High School as well,” he said. “I know there are people in those buildings who are also very passionate about developing this kind of culture.”
Another reason why Lakers is THE place to be!
